dc.description.abstractLos combustibles los ha utilizado el hombre desde que encontró la manera de controlar, producir y utilizar el fuego . Desde esas remotas épocas, ha encontrado otros elementos, siempre buscando más eficiencia en los procesos que requieren del calor y la potencia que se pueden obtener por medio de la combustión. En este proceso de mejoramiento, ha empleado una gran cantidad de combustibles fósiles, pasando por la madera, el carbón, el petróleo, todos ellos perjudiciales para el medio ambiente y la salud de los seres vivos. La sociedad, al ver amenazada su integridad, a mediados del siglo pasado (siglo XX) empieza a oponerse al consumo desenfrenado de estos combustibles, obligando a los científicos a investigar en busca de opciones menos perjudiciales. Como consecuencia, en la actualidad se trabaja en la implementación de soluciones como las celdas de combustión, cuyo residuo es agua pura.spa
