Trust has become a key success factor in organizations, which is why they implement strategies to build, increase, preserve, and even restore it. However, trust is an equivocal term with different meanings that depend on the context in which it is used. Therefore, the objective of this article is to discuss the sense in which trust can be addressed in organizations. To this end, we employed a hermeneutical method, where management and recent moral philosophy engage in a critical dialogue that reveals that philosophical argumentation can help to reconsider trust at organizations and to understand it beyond what is commonly accepted as obvious. The conclusion of this hermeneutic dialogue is that trust in organizations should be understood both in its proper and metaphorical sense, it occurs at different levels according to the type of relationship between stakeholders, and it may be supported by obligation.en-US
