A civic-scientific culture for university students from an STS perspective: the case of the ITM
Abstract
El presente trabajo propone contribuir en la formación de una cultura cívica científica para establecer una imagen social de la ciencia y mejores ciudadanos en las posibilidades de participación. Desde una perspectiva teórica centrada en los estudios de Ciencia, Tecnología y la Sociedad –CTS, marco de esta tesis, la propuesta epistemológica de Olivé a partir del pluralismo y la posición teórica de lo cívico, acerca de cómo la ciencia debe llegar a la sociedad, cómo la sociedad y en especial los universitarios deben entender la ciencia y en qué medida les corresponde vincularse desde el compromiso cívico y la participación ciudadana con ellos.
El principal aporte de este trabajo de investigación se centra en presentar orientaciones de una cultura cívica científica para el curso CTS del ITM. Así entonces, la tesis se estructura en cuatro partes que apuntan hacia cómo lo cívico podría ponerse en práctica desde los postulados que se defendieron en la tesis En la primera parte, se presenta la importancia de la naturaleza de la ciencia en pro de una imagen socialmente ajustada en la educación científica. La segunda parte, esta centrada en la exploración conceptual de los estudios CTS y su contribución a una imagen ajustada y contextualizada de la ciencia. Posteriormente, desde lo teórico se intenta mostrar la vinculación de la perspectiva cívica sobre la ciencia en la cultura científica. Finalmente, se plantea el enfoque basado en la cultura cívica científica en pro de fortalecer el curso CTS en el ITM y enriquecer la educación CTS
Abstract
This paper aims to contribute to the formation of a scientific civic culture to establish a social image of science and better citizens on the possibilities of participation. From a theoretical perspective focusing on the studies of Science, Technology and Society (STS), framework of this thesis, Olivé epistemological proposal from pluralism and the theoretical position of the civic, about how science must come to society, how society and especially the university must understand science and to what extent their rightful linked from civic engagement and citizen participation with them.The main contribution of this research is to present guidance of a scientific civic culture for the STS course of ITM. So then, the thesis is divided into four parts which point to how the civic could be implemented from the postulates that defended the thesis. In the first part, the importance of the science of nature is presented towards a socially adjusted image in science education. The second part is focused on the conceptual exploration of the STS studies and their contribution to a set of science and contextualized image. Subsequently, from the theoretical attempts to show the involvement of civic perspective on science in scientific culture. Finally, based on scientific civic culture in favor of strengthening the STS course at the ITM and enrich the educational approach it raises STS
