Development Of A Matlab LIbrary For CalculatingThe Indexes Of Vegetation From Spectral Images
Abstract
The objective of this work is to develop a Matlab library focused on the processing of hyperspectral images and the calculation of vegetation indexes; parameter calculated from reflectance at different wavelengths which is particularly sensitive to vegetation cover; it also corresponds to a number generated by some combination of spectral bands, which in turn may have some relationship to the amount of vegetation present in a given pixel. In this work some vegetation indexes were applied such as: NVDI, GNVDI, OSAVI, and LSWI. The processing of remote satellite images captured over eastern Antioquia (Rionegro and El Retiro) and the Municipality of Envigado was carried out. For the development of this proposal we worked with the Aviris, Landsat and Sentinel sensors, since these data are freely accessible. The Landsat 8 and Sentinel 2 sensors are satellite systems that collect data every 16 or 10 days respectively. For its part, the Aviris sensor is used on an area platform and captures 224 contiguous spectral channels (bands) with wavelengths from 400 to 2500 nanometers; for this sensor there are different open access images. The results depend on the implemented index, which allows establishing thresholds and comparing images of the soil. Ranges and values are established so that, based on these, results are obtained on the levels corresponding to characteristics such as water, buildings and vegetation.
