In many municipalities of the department of Antioquia and mainly in the southwest, its inhabitants base their livelihood on the planting and marketing of coffee, but due to price fluctuations at the international and national levels, their economy is affected. Currently, there are several factors that affect the price of coffee at the national level, but the most relevant are: The moisture content due to climatic conditions, purity or quality of the coffee and drying method. This project contributes to the current problem in relation to the coffee drying process, which causes losses close to 30% in the final price assigned by the buyer, due to the quality standards with which it is evaluated: Aroma, flavor and appearance. A bad drying causes the coffee to present: Total or partial black grain, vinegar smell, crystallized, dark spots or colors and crushed shape (Federation of coffee growers, 2019). This work presents the design of a coffee dryer with automatic control that uses photovoltaic solar energy as its main source of energy and electric energy as a secondary source, providing good quality coffee at the lowest possible cost, benefiting the great majority of coffee growers in the municipalities of Antioquia. This design is based on the amount of coffee to be dried, the percentage of moisture contained and the solar radiation received per day, with which the components to be used in the photovoltaic solar system and the characteristics of the fan to be used for the photovoltaic system were sized and selected. circulation or extraction of the humidity contained in the coffee.spa
